At the scene

Anything from the day it happened.

  • Wide photos of the whole placeShows the spot before anyone cleaned it, moved a car, or fixed a step.
  • Close photos of the cars, the floor, or the machineDamage is hard to describe in words and easy to show in a picture.
  • The police or incident report numberA number is enough. Someone can pull the report from the agency that wrote it.
  • Names and phone numbers of people who saw itPeople move and change numbers. A first name and a number today is worth a lot later.

Doctors and your body

A list of places is fine. You do not need the records.

  • Where you went first, and roughly whenThe first visit ties what hurt to when it started.
  • Who is treating you nowShows the care did not stop, and says who to ask for updates.
  • Photos of your injuries, week by weekBruises fade. A photo from the first week says more than a memory does.
  • Medicines, therapy, a brace, or crutchesThese show what daily life has looked like since the injury.

Money and work

Rough numbers are fine to start.

  • Pay stubs from before and afterShows the change in your pay without anyone having to argue about it.

Things people said or signed
